Equine assisted therapy is much more effective than traditional therapy, but it is also much more costly and labor-intensive. This is because it costs over $5000 per year to feed and care for each horse! In addition, a horse handler and several side walkers are typically needed for each rider to assist with therapy in conjunction with the therapists and instructors. Therefore, funding and volunteers are needed to provide for care of the horses and other farm animals, program related activities, equipment, and facility improvements.
